The author of The Seven Seas and Me was born in Southern California. He did not grow up on the water but spent his summers visiting it. His excursions to the beach and adventures on the Pacific Ocean fostered a love of the sea.

He later attended a school in Maryland that trains its students for professional work on the water. Here he was able to sail up and down the East Coast.

From there he moved to the Gulf of Mexico where he enjoyed sailing the calm waters of Florida, but he missed the fresh air of the Pacific and after a year returned to California, but this time settling in Monterey.

Monterey is home, but soon he will set off even further west to Hawaii.

The author does not by any means contend that he is an expert on the maritime world, rather this place is meant to serve as a record of his journey into it.
